Earth Repair and War

How do you clear a room of climate activists? Start talking about war.

This is the opening line of an article by Stacy Bannerman detailing how the US military is the biggest emitter of greenhouse gases in the world.

I have gone on the record many times as opposing wars of imperialism, of which the US is currently the world’s leader. But what a lot of people don’t talk about is the negative effect of war on forests, animals, soils and ecosystems. Bombs kill far more than people. The earth repair work backlog due to war is very large and encompasses whole countries. Hard enough to do earth repair after a war with economies destroyed and workforces depleted, but even harder while the war is ongoing. Earth repair workers would be risking their lives. Rather than sweeping war under the rug, I am calling for a track on “Earth repair in war torn areas” at our conference. This will likely take the form of one or two panels, depending on how many people want to contribute to this topic. If you are interested (and knowledgeable) please get in touch with me.
