Phantom Forests: Why Ambitious Tree Planting Projects Are Failing
Here is an eye-opening article by Fred Pearce in Greenbiz (October, 2022) on the status of many high-profile tree planting projects . This indicates what happens with many tree planting projects planned from the top down. This is why locally-based, tree planting projects are the way to go. Worth reading as a precuationary tale. The article notes that many of those projects do not incorporate adequate follow up care and funding and do not get local buy in. Let’s promote grassroots tree planting with the locals in charge, or at least consenting.
