Julie Ann Koehlinger – Science with Spirituality

After working for more than 20 years in health care, Julie Ann fully embraced her spiritual connection to water by returning to school to study the oceans and receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Oceanography. Realizing that addressing climate change also requires addressing the human element, she then obtained a Master of Marine Affairs degree. She is currently a Washington State Sea Grant fellow at the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary, where she is working to establish the Olympic Coast as a Sentinel Site for Ocean Acidification. A long time pagan practitioner, Julie Ann is also interested in the relationship between science and spirituality and how our sense of place motivates us to take care of the Earth.

Workshop(s)

Workshop 1: Mindfulness and Climate Change at the Shoreline

Taking personal action around climate change sometimes feels insignificant in the face of global scale change. This experiential workshop drew from mindfulness practice, pagan spirituality, and ocean science to foster knowledge about Washington’s unique marine ecosystems, a connection to place, and inspiration to take action at a personal level.
