Introducing the HPAC Global Heating Emergency Conference – Setting the Scientific Stage for the Global Earth Repair Convergence

Dear colleagues and friends,

Dennis Garrity is a world-renowned systems agronomist and the former Director General of the World Agroforestry Center, also the UN’s Drylands Ambassador – and we’re excited to announce that he is collaborating with us on the launch of the Global Earth Repair Convergence as he is piloting his own conference.

The HPAC Global Heating Emergency Conference is a crucial prelude to our event because it will confront the worsening crisis of global heating. Temperatures are rising fast, and we are coming to grips with what that means for ecosystems and societies. What strategies can we deploy before the 2 degrees Celsius average change is breached, and how can these organizations interlock and accentuate each other – like species diversifying into niches of an ecosystem itself – to avoid repeating or re-doing work and to have the greatest impact possible?

Dr. Garrity’s experience in sustainable landscape management, agroforestry, and restoring ecosystems bring incredible depth and nuance to this conversation. He is a bridge between the regenerative actions taking place on the ground and the cutting-edge science of climate change that holds the big-picture view of the impacts (positive and negative) our works are having as a species. This will help anchor the Global Earth Repair Convergence in both meeting the urgent need and bringing into focus real solutions that show us a different world is possible.

So neither of these events are isolated – the work each is doing is foundational to the other. While HPAC is like a doctor diagnosing a critical illness, GERF is like the nurse practitioners and physical therapists that can support and carry the necessary work forward into the real world, meeting the crisis head on. This is especially true when it comes to natural solutions such as ecosystem restoration and regenerative agriculture planning, as well as so much more.

The HPAC Global Heating Emergency Conference will explore topics like:

  • The reasons behind the rapid acceleration of global heating.
  • The full scale of harm to human and non-human communities.
  • The full breakdown of solutions and their direct impacts as pieces of the puzzle (eg. emissions reduction, carbon sequestration, increasing reflection of the surface, and bio-geoengineering aka natural solutions).
  • The path forward, collecting and deploying ideas, partnerships, and actions toward restoration.

Given that we are all co-inhabitants of this beautiful planet Earth, we should all care about the future of life here, and therefore we all have an interest in its perpetuation. For those reasons and so many more, you should register for the HPAC conference, or learn more about it at https://preventing2degrees.org. Thanks again to Dennis and his organization for amazing correspondence thus far, and we are looking forward to more collaborations as we approach the dates for both our Convergences and beyond!
