A Preliminary Report on the Global Earth Repair Summit By Michael Pilarski
Dear friends and colleagues in Earth repair,
The Global Earth Repair Summit was amazing! The Summit happened on 4 continents simultaneously. Wow! The insights and knowledge gained are phenomenal and we are just beginning.
We would like to report that we have assembled one of the most up-to-date and best compilations of solutions to the current world crises. They are contained in the 100 or so recordings generated at the summit. Mostly presentations but also group discussions. We were representative of the greater worldwide movement to restore ecosystem health and function, including rehydrating and cooling the planet. If we could replace three days of regular television programming with our Earth Repair recordings and put them on the TV sets of the world, the world would change. The solutions are staring us in the face. The path forward is clear. There is hope.
Everyone should listen to John D. Liu’s keynote address.
NORTH AMERICA PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Speaker after speaker said that the time for action is NOW! From the viewpoints of the indigenous participants, the scientists and the grass-roots.
First Nations Track. First Nations is another term for Indigenous Peoples. This was a deep and rich offerings by our indigenous friends. Indigenous worldviews, wisdom, knowledge and prophecy. Advice for the world. Everything is alive and humans need to take a more humble and stewarding role with nature. If nothing else, please watch their message to the Summit and to the world. Particularly poignant is the 4-hour, First Nations Caucus of October 23. Once everything is finished with downloading, we will post all the presentations of this track in one list.
Nature Communication Track. Another strong track highlighting how humans can communicate and co-create with nature intelligences. Following very much in line with the indigenous message. Once everything is finished with downloading, we will post all the presentations of this track in one list.
Water Track. So many great presentations on how to rehydrate landscapes and the climate. We truly did have some of the world’s leading experts on this topic. Once everything is finished with downloading, we will post all the presentations of this track in one list.
Social Track. The people part of the earth repair solutions. Healing the human race, individually and collectively. Redesigning our social, economic and governance systems.
Unconferencing. Unconferencing is about enabling a participant-led, participatory event involving lots of dialogue and opportunity for networking and forming friendships. Ryan Rising did a great job of facilitating this. We are pleased with how this went in our first Summit and plan on expanding this aspect in future Summits.
Global Earth Repair Day of Action. Hands-on events and in-person events did happen, but not very many. Reports are still trickling in and we will post a fuller account and documentation at a later date. One of the unconference sessions was on “restoration festivals” and we will be promoting restoration festivals in conjunction with Summit II.
Global Earth Repair Action Plan. We did not get as far along on this as we had hoped. We had minimal input before and during the Summit. But there will soon be a place on the web for people to contribute their thoughts and recommendations.
We seek wide input. This will lead to an on-line, living document which can gradually take shape on the lead-up to Summit II. The plan will be organized using a pattern language format. We expect significant advances on this project during Summit II. In regards to COP27, we won’t have much to present there, but we will compile a brief introduction, current ideas and resources just prior to COP27. This will be posted on our website at that time.
Music, Drumming and Dancing. The Summit featured earth repair musicians from North America and drummers and dancers from Africa. We will compile a play list when time allows.
Our goal is an on-line community. Definitely friendships were formed at the first Summit. These will deepen over time. We are not clear yet what our on-line community platform will be. Stay tuned to our website for further developments.
Thank you to our sponsors.
