Chief Jake Teraronianeken Swamp
Chief Jake Teraronianeken Swamp (1946-2010) was a Native American Peace Advocate of the Wolf Clan and sub-chief of the Kahniakehaka, Mohawk Nation. Chief Jake Swamp traveled around the world meeting with world leaders and community groups to share the Tree of Peace ceremony and spread the Iroquois wisdom surrounding Peacemaker Principles and the Thanksgiving Address.
As reported, he explained, “Many years ago, man depended on his own judgement and strayed away from the original instruction, giving birth to greed, jealousy, warfare and destruction.” He wanted people to return to their roots, for “when the creator made the world, he intended people to always live at peace with one another.” The white pine, once used to unite the warring five Iroquois nations, marked “our willingness to work together for peace and protection.”
Organization: Founder of the Tree of Peace Society, an international organization promoting peace and environmental conservation as it emphasizes individual responsibility for one’s actions, a deep personal relationship with the natural world, and the acknowledgment that all living things are blessings from the creator to be treated with sensitivity and respect.
Book: He is the author of the children’s book, “Giving Thanks: A Native American Good Morning Message.”
