A Land and Leadership Retreat with Didi Pershouse, as an Example of Bio-Regional Events for Long-Term Regeneration.
It’s been awhile since our last post on the subject of the Global Earth Repair Convergence (now tentatively slated to run September 19-21), but we wanted to point out an upcoming opportunity with our esteemed colleague and vision circle collaborator Didi Pershouse to participate in visualizing and enacting the next leg of the transition into the systems we want to see scaled up and out across the planet – ideas like regenerative agriculture, ecosystem restoration and generally, Earth Repair. As it appears that the scale envisioned previously of a large Convergence with international participation may not be in the cards yet, bio-regional events are beginning to take shape. For example, in addition to Didi’s upcoming intensive retreat, Joe Brewer and Penny Heiple, two more of our collaborators, are hosting their virtual event “Let’s Regenerate the Earth… Together!” from their Design School for Regenerating Earth in Colombia.
Didi’s event in Thetford, Vermont, the Land and Leadership Initiative Retreat (May 10-14) offers an opportunity for leaders and practitioners in eco-restorative arts to assemble for deep, bold, creative and strategic work. The organizers intend to foster an immersive, intensive in-person experience with deep dive discussions and hands-on connection to real working solutions and systems, as well as just enjoying and rejuvenating in the beautiful outdoor setting of the retreat. We want to stay away from devices as much as possible during this time, but we do plan on involving remote video collaborations with far-off teachers such as the renowned Australian soil scientist Walter Jehne. This event combines practical knowledge, hands-on experience, and cultural examples of success stories. Whether or not you can physically attend, if you like seeing such gatherings take place, please consider sponsoring or supporting this retreat here.
This is a great example of regional convergences breaking ground for decentralized outgrowths of Earth Repair. This particular example, Didi’s retreat, fosters the personal human connections and embodied presence of the pre-zoom world, honoring the human need to share meals, physically connect, and play together. These experiences are vital for building skills and nurturing real networks of relationships that long-term change can grow from. By attending and hosting such events, and encouraging others to do so as well, we can celebrate local uniqueness (and each other) while connecting these points of light across the planet!
