Nakivale Refugee Settlement, Uganda – Music, singing drumming and dancing performances for the Global Earth Repair Summit
Nakivale Refugee Settlement is one of the earliest Refugee camps in Africa and today is one of the largest. As of late 2023 and early 2024, the Nakivale Refugee Settlement in southwest Uganda hosts over 180,000 refugees. Established in 1958, it is one of Africa’s oldest, with a diverse population, primarily from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Somalia, and Rwanda.
In 2021 Global Earth Repair Foundation was helping the Umoja Community Foundation started by Marius Ziganari for sustainable agriculture. We connected through the EcoRestoration Alliance. In 2022, Marius Ziganari mentioned that he worked with youth choirs at Nakivale Refugee Camp. We asked Marius if he would ask the youth choirs to perform some songs for the 2022 Earth Repair Summit. We promised we would give $1,000 to the youth groups for the projects of their choice.
Wow! They produced a world-class performance with hundreds of people involved. Marius told us that he had to include all the different tribes at the Camp as no-one wanted to be left out.
These inspiring performances came out of the youth choir initiative. Notice on the banner they are holding it says Global Earth Repair Foundation at the bottom.
