Workshop 1: Restoration as Earth Repair ~ Holistic Invasive Species Management for Regenerating Ecosystem Function

All too often, invasive species are considered negative influences on ecosystem function and diversity, but what if we see them instead as hallmarks of living systems in need of more comprehensive and thoughtful stewardship? In this workshop, we will discuss how to understand invasive species in a holistic context – looking at how and why they proliferate where and when they do. By learning to read the landscape to understand its history, current state, and future trajectory, we can start to intervene in meaningful ways to create resilient, highly diverse and functional landscapes. In this way, the practice of ecosystem restoration can be so much more than invasive species removal, and move towards a suite of practices aimed at deeply regenerative ecological action.
