Brian Kerkvliet – Practical Transition to Regenerative Practices
Business-Organization: inspiration farm
As a co-steward of Inspiration Farm for the past 25 + years, Brian has a wide breadth of practical knowledge on how to partner with natural systems to bring forth stability and abundance.
Being interested in gardening and appropriate technology since I was a kid, I have followed a path towards a regenerative lifestyle. Inspired by my grandpa Jerry who ran an integrated farm on South Whidbey island. He was visited by Bill Mollison in the early 70’s. After taking many short workshops on animals, grafting, gardening etc. I visited the Bullock brothers which took my interested and understanding to a new level. We held a PDC in 2009 here at Inspiration Farm featuring Robin Francis and Doug Bullock as instructors among others.
Inspiration Farm is an 11 acre homestead styled farm since 1994. Integrating Biodynamic and Permaculture practices in relation to annual & perennial food systems, animal husbandry, appropriate technology, land/water nutrient management.
Throughout the year we have a variety of Events, Tours and Workshops. This year we are hosting several workshops on permaculture and sustainable practices. Contact us if you would like to be notified on workshops that we will be hosting or would like to bring a group for a experiential farm tour.

Workshop(s)
Workshop 1: Transitional farm planning for ecocology, diversity and resilliance
I could present this as a case study of our farm and others I have
done designs for and helped through this process or it could be a panel
or round table too
I will work on this description more but here is an outline.
Restoring mono-cropped land into diverse life enhancing ecosystems that
provide for food, fiber, medicine and habitat. Attaining Agroecology
– Phases of planning
– Setting goals
– Stages for implementation
– Maintaining income during transition
– Building soil and water retention
– Highlighting model systems that are working
Modern agriculture is one of the leading causes for ecosystem
degradation but it can also be the solution to many of the problem that
we are facing. Soil loss, water contamination, habitat loss, crop
nutrition depletion, community disconnect from their food shed. We will
look at solutions to all of these problem and paths towards
implementation.
